Polish League Against Defamation supports legally and financially important lawsuits. We help those who claim their good name and truth in court. The RDI’s activities are also aimed at defending the cult of memory of the deceased, who previously did not live to see their good name restored or the consequences of the infringement of their personal goods removed.<\/span><\/p>\n The spread of false information affects the reputation of Poland and Poles, which is why the Polish League Against Defamation bears the costs of important court cases, both legal and administrative, as well as the costs of experts’ and historians’ opinions, in order to be able to fight for the truth .<\/span><\/p>\n We have developed a certain legal doctrine that will allow all Poles to defend their good name against those who accuse the entire Polish Nation and Polish State of, for example, perpetrating the Holocaust. Let us remember that the truth about the Second World War, the truth about who was its perpetrator, belongs not only to us, but to all the murdered, the Victims of that war. Any falsification of the truth by attributing the perpetration of the Holocaust to Poles is also an insult to the memory of the Victims, after whom only ashes and pain caused by their absence from Polish life remain. This is why our fight for the good name is so important both from the point of view of the individual and of the nation as a whole.\u00a0 Taking care of personal goods such as the right to an unadulterated history and national pride, and the right to respect the truth about the actions of Poles during World War II are factors shaping national identity and a sense of national dignity.<\/span><\/p>\n The Polish League Against Defamation’s track record includes the development of <\/span>a legal doctrine, confirmed by court judgments, stating that Polish courts have <\/span>jurisdiction to proceed against foreign media in Polish courts, based on Polish <\/span>press and civil law. This applies to the judgment in the case of the film „Our <\/span>Mothers Our Fathers.”<\/span><\/p>\n Another element of the developed legal doctrine is the right to honor the memory <\/span>of ancestors treated as a personal good, and consequently the emergence of the <\/span>possibility of defending the good name of Poland and Poles under the provisions <\/span>of the Civil Code. The story of Lucjan „S\u0119p” Wi\u015bniewski, liquidator from the counter-intelligence of the AK” slandering the Bak brothers’ family.<\/span><\/p>\n The case of Krystian Brodacki, whose mother was killed in an execution carried out by the Germans in Palmiry. The Onet.pl portal, which illustrated an article about Polish women’s love affairs with Germans and prostitution during the Second World War with a photograph of women being led to their execution at Palmiry, had to publish an apology and pay 50,000 PLN in compensation.<\/span><\/p>\n The case of the over 90-year-old Home Army soldier W\u0142odzimierz Pajdowski. In the light of the IPN files, it turned out that the accusations were untrue. The Regional Court in \u0141\u00f3d\u017a awarded an apology and compensation in the requested amount of PLN 20,000.<\/span><\/p>\n The case of Maciej \u015awirski vs Newsweek.pl over the use of the phrase 'Polish concentration camps’ in Paula Szewczyk’s article on the book 'Little Crime’. <\/span>The court ordered Newsweek.pl to publish a correction.<\/p>\n Natalia Nitek-Pla\u017cy\u0144ska’s case against Hans G., a German entrepreneur, for, among other things, hate speech towards Poles. Natalia Nitek had been verbally harassed for several months at the Pomeranian company POS System by its owner Hans G. According to the judgment of the Regional Court in Gda\u0144sk, Hans G. was obliged to apologise to Natalia Nitek-P\u0142a\u017cy\u0144ska and to pay PLN 50 000 to the Pia\u015bnickie Museum in Wejherowo. In his justification of the verdict, Judge Piotr Kowalski emphasised the historical roots of the racial prejudice and racial superiority of Germans that Hans G. presented.<\/span><\/p>\n He also succeeded in having the slanderous photograph in the Jewish News removed by a decision of the District Court in Warsaw, together with a description which implied that Poles were complicit in the Holocaust.<\/span><\/p>\n It was also successful in rejecting a lawsuit by the Frankfurter Allgemaine Zeitung against the RDI for refusing to correct the information.
