Today is the 81st anniversary of the outbreak of the Ghetto Uprising, created by German authorities in Warsaw, which commemorates the extraordinary courage and determination of the Jewish people in the face of the terror of the Nazi occupiers, during World War II.

The attempted resistance to the mass deportations and extermination of the Jewish population lasted from April 19, 1943 to May 16, 1943. It was during this period that the Ghetto Uprising, created for the Jewish population by the German authorities in Warsaw, took place, when representatives of the Jewish community, organized mainly within the Jewish Combat Organization (ŻOB) and the Jewish Military Union (ŻŻW), defied the Nazi troops who were conducting the operation to liquidate the ghetto and mass exterminate its inhabitants. Despite horrific living conditions and operating in hiding, they chose to stand up to the German troops. Their heroism and determination are a model of indomitable spirit and solidarity in the face of the greatest evil.

The 81st anniversary of the outbreak of the Ghetto Uprising is not only an opportunity to commemorate the victims and heroes of those events, but also to reflect on values such as freedom, human dignity and the fight against intolerance and prejudice. This is a time to remember the tragic consequences of intolerance and the commitment to prevent similar tragedies in the future through education, dialogue and building societies based on respect and equality.

During the anniversary of the outbreak of the Ghetto Uprising, created in Warsaw by German authorities, it is worth pausing for a moment to pay tribute to all those who fought for dignity and survival in the face of German Nazi terror. This tribute is not only an act of remembrance, but also an inspiration to act for a better and more just world. Through such reflections, we can honour the memory of those who perished, but also continue to fight for the values they represented.

These values are also embedded in the mission of the Polish League Against Defamation. Our commitment to researching and disseminating the true picture of Polish history, including history related to the Holocaust and the participation of Poles in saving Jews, is one of the fundamental aspects of our activities. We constantly counteract the falsification of history and disinformation.

As early as May 10 of this year, another hearing will be held highlighting our opposition to the publication of false information and false rhetoric regarding the attitude of the Polish people toward the Jewish minority, which is promoted by Prof. Jan Grabowski. We are striving to maintain a reliable and historically correct narrative about Poland, taking up the legal battle against Prof. Grabowski, whose views and publications arouse outrage because they present false interpretations of historical events.

To the end, we will fight for a reliable account of the course of World War II, spreading historical truth and caring for the good name of Poland and Poles.
