We sincerely thank you for your involvement and response to our appeal dated January 28, 2024, regarding the need to counteract the „Auschwitz lie” perpetrated by the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen.
The posting on the official profile of a video featuring Holocaust victims’ names and the identification of contemporary states as the sites of their extermination, where German Nazi death camps were located, was highly inappropriate and required an immediate response. As the Polish League Against Defamation Foundation, our priority is to combat such defamatory statements, which is why we reached out to you for support in conveying numerous protests aimed at correcting this misinformation. Your engagement was immense, and we sincerely thank you. It was also thanks to your response that the inappropriate rhetoric was quickly corrected, replacing the defamatory video with factual information.
Our activity focuses on defending the truth about Poland and Poles, which is why we pay particular attention to the correctness of terminology, especially concerning German Nazi concentration and death camps. We strive not only to correct erroneous terms such as „Polish Auschwitz camp” but also to counter their publication in the media. This year, as in previous years, we have sent information to editors and journalists worldwide, drawing attention to the correct naming of German camps such as Auschwitz-Birkenau, emphasizing that the use of terms like „Polish camp” is an „Auschwitz lie” and therefore inconsistent with historical truth. This year’s experiences have strengthened our belief that in the coming years, we must also address similar preventive correspondence to foreign politicians to prevent the situations described above from recurring.
Unfortunately, despite our efforts, the European Commission in its published material avoided the truth, failing to mention the context of the occupation of territories by Nazi Germany. The lack of this context resulted in the erroneous attribution of responsibility for German crimes to occupied nations and states. We do not accept such rhetoric and erroneous interpretation. Therefore, it is essential to consistently emphasize the „Auschwitz lies” and demand their correction, as was effectively achieved last Sunday.

The current situation of Polish League Against Defamation is extremely difficult and worrying. The decrease in donations in recent months of 2023 and the need to take cost-cutting measures indeed place our activities in the face of a real threat of suspension.
The decision to forego new projects in favor of priority tasks is understandable given our limited financial resources. At the same time, we appreciate your support, which gives us determination and perseverance in striving for the survival of Polish League Against Defamation in the face of these difficulties.
Your support, directed towards us, gives us strength to overcome all difficulties and hope that a solution can be found this time as well. We believe that the strength and commitment of your community and the solidarity of those who appreciate our mission can be crucial in overcoming the current financial crisis.
