We present to you another interactive map, which we have enriched the „Layers of Memory” project.

We know that sports unites generations, unites society – which is especially noticeable in international competition, where our Polish athletes compete for the highest laurels.

That is why many notable athletes have become national heroes, but also ambassadors of the Polish cause in world arenas. To a large extent, sports and athletes’ achievements evoke positive emotions, and fans are looking for information on their idols, whose achievements have made history in Polish sports. It is for this reason that this map was created.

Building a layer dedicated to Polish athletes, we wanted to prepare a reliable knowledge base about specific people. By presenting their biographies, we will promote attitudes that can become a source of values and role models worthy of imitation.

The project presents the biographies of Polish sports stars, taking into account both their places of birth and death, as well as the places where these Polish participants in the sports arena pursued their career paths and achieved success. The twentieth century abounded with numerous medals and important achievements in sports, which not only brought laurels to their heroes, but also had a national dimension and supported society in all the difficult periods of this century, giving hope and faith and confirming the strength of the Polish State, and at the same time fuelled pride in Polish nationality.

On the map „POLISH ATHLETES” we have included 200 highlights related to Polish athletes, despite the fact that the list of names is much more extensive. Therefore, our goal is to continue to develop this project and identify more medallists and sports heroes.

We plan to expand the map and supplement it with more information and new figures related to sports. We want to present as many outstanding Polish athletes as possible, their profiles and successes, not only those in sports, but also many others that they can boast of, in order to appreciate their contribution and influence on the perception in the sports environment of Poland.

One of the key elements of this project is the involvement of users who can actively participate in the development of our database. We appreciate the community’s input and knowledge, so we encourage everyone to share information on new names or supplement existing data. Your involvement will allow us to create a database that will be a valuable resource, especially for the younger generation.

That’s why at the top of the map, as well as next to each athlete’s information, there is an option to use the submission form, which will allow you to submit an athlete or supplement the information posted about him or her.

To report new athletes or complete information on existing figures, we encourage you to use it. This is a simple and convenient way to provide us with valuable data that will help develop the „POLISH ATHLETES” map.

The form is located on the top bar of the https://sportowcy.warstwypamieci.pl/ website and is marked with a plus icon, when clicked, the following indicated window will appear.

When designing a layer depicting the achievements of Polish athletes, we wanted to bring information about a given athlete, taking into account his achievements in representing Poland, but also the history associated with his sports and patriotic activities. Her sports achievements and contributions to the development of sports in Poland made her an important figure in the history of Polish sports. Jadwiga Jedrzejowska, a Polish tennis player, considered one of the most outstanding Polish sportswomen. Her career in tennis began in the 1930s, and her sporting achievements and style of play made her one of the icons of world tennis at the time. Known for his perseverance and determination. He was also a soldier in the Polish Army and took part in the 1939 September campaign during World War II. His life and athletic achievements are a tribute to the Polish spirit and determination.

We should also mention Waldemar Baszanowski, a Polish weightlifter, one of the most successful Polish athletes, who was the first Pole to win two Olympic gold medals in weightlifting. His successes made him a legend in Polish sports and a role model for many young athletes; but also about Tadeusz Ślusarski, a Polish athlete specializing in pole vaulting, whose sports career was associated with international competition, and whose achievements made Ślusarski a respected athlete in Poland.

Each of them stood out both for their outstanding achievements in sports, but also for their social activities, patriotism as well as universal respect, which is why showing these figures is so important.

By exploring the map, you can explore the achievements of many Polish athletes, admire their sports achievements and successes, but also learn how many important activities they undertook in other areas of life, how many passions they had and interesting occupations. Therefore, this is an opportunity to appreciate and learn more about the achievements of Polish athletes and be inspired by their perseverance, fighting strength and national spirit.
