15 listopad 2022 | Aktualności, Raporty

In RDI’s latest Report entitled „Poland’s assistance to Ukraine in the context of a full-scale Russian invasion” – we will present an analysis of four areas of assistance Poland is providing to Ukraine. The issues discussed in the Report relate to military, political, economic and social support.

9 November 2022. Alexei Arestovich, an advisor to the Office of the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky, stated in an interview with Yulia Latynina, a well-known Russian journalist in exile in London, that „If it were not for Poland, we [Ukraine] would no longer exist. In every sense: humanitarian, political, war. Poland practically saved Ukraine”.

The first part of the Report provides an analysis of the military dimension, from the increased presence of NATO troops on the eastern flank to Poland’s transfer of arms and ammunition, detailing the type of arms and ammunition transferred to defending Ukraine.

The second part of the study deals with the political dimension, Polish assistance to Ukraine in the context of a full-scale Russian invasion, which can be divided into two periods. The first, which took place before 24 February 2022, but already after the Polish side received information from the US about Russia’s preparations for invasion in November 2021. The second period is the actions taken by the Polish authorities as early as 24 February 2022. Russia launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

The next chapter of the Report presents an analysis of support in the economic dimension. Poland’s economic assistance to Ukraine is multidimensional, including direct financial support from Poland to Ukraine, humanitarian aid provided directly by Poland, or funding from the Polish state budget of expenses related to the presence in Poland of the largest group of Ukrainian refugees compared to other countries, as well as aid provided directly by Polish citizens.

The last part of the Report discusses the social dimension of the assistance Poland provides to Ukraine, which concerns support provided to war refugees from Ukraine who have arrived in Poland, and humanitarian aid provided to Ukrainian residents who have decided to remain in their homeland.
