The latest RDI Report 'Political, economic, military and humanitarian support to Ukraine from selected Western European countries’ provides a detailed analysis of the assistance provided to Ukraine by the UK, France, Spain and Germany. The analysis covers the period of assistance provided from the beginning of the invasion until December 2022.
Produced by RDI’s Documentation and Analysis Department, the paper analyses the level of support and shows the different forms of assistance shown to Ukraine. The study compares the support provided before the Russian invasion and in the face of war. Political, economic, military and humanitarian issues are characterised in detail to show the scale and scope of support shown by each country. The issues presented in the Report are intended to serve you and become a useful tool for anyone interested in obtaining reliable information on the level and type of support for Ukraine. The study is designed to answer questions about the commitment and dimensions of support shown to Ukraine by selected Western European countries. All data is current as of 21.12.2022.
The RDI report consists of four parts, which present an analysis of support for Ukraine from selected Western European countries. The first part presents an analysis of the support provided by the UK, which is one of the most important allies for the defending Ukraine, alongside the United States, Poland and the Baltic states. The second and third parts of the study present an analysis of the support provided by two more Western European countries, namely France and Spain.
The fourth part of the report discusses the dimension of assistance provided by the Federal Republic of Germany. In the case of Germany, we focus on the political aspect by analysing two programmatic texts by Chancellor Olaf Scholz, which outline the attitude of the German authorities to the war in Ukraine. We also contrast the German Chancellor’s announced will to play a leading role in the architecture of European security with the Bundeswehr’s real capabilities.
